Boone, NC to Middlesboro, KY - Day 4

Day 4 found us catching up on the Daniel Boone sites in Boone, NC: posing with Daniel at Appalachian State University (mascot--The Mountaineers), eating the homestyle "all-you-can-eat" lunch/dinner at the Inn, antiquing a little (not shown, but got some good stuff), and shopping at the famous Mast General Store open since 1883. http://www.mastgeneralstore.com

We left Boone and took the mountain roads much the way Daniel would have except that he had only had a couple of horses to carry his skins and pelts, whereas I had 200 horses to get me up the mountain! You see some of the views but thankfully I don't give you too much. It was Daniel's hunting in the Blue Ridge mountains that led the Boone county seat to be named after him in 1869.

Somehow the GPS took over my trip when I wasn't paying attention during a lightning storm and we left the mountain roads, which might have been a good idea anyhow with the thunderstorms in the mountains. So, tomorrow we hope to travel back down (half way) the trail Daniel took in 1769 to the Cumberland Gap from Boone following the old hunter, Indian, and buffalo trails.

Why we travel to Middleboro, KY just to go to Walmart is beyond me. And by the way, do they sell "deer food" for $8.88 in the MA Walmarts?
