Birdsboro, PA: Day 1
The first day saw us reach our destination in the heat of the day around 2pm. It was interesting to find numerous references to Daniel Boone in the names of a church, the schools, a rural highway, etc.
Although the original log cabin was replaced by a later homestead, it was neat to see the original "spring cellar" still in operation. Their ingenious way to keep food in cold storage was to have a natural spring in the cellar into which they kept the food in jars sitting in the water with a temp around 40F.
It was not hard to imagine Daniel and his brothers hunting and trapping and exploring the surrounding forested hillsides. Daniel was born here October 22, 1734.
